All Texans should know that back in October of 2023, consumer groups and scientists urged the FDA and called on the makers of a super popular Easter candy to stop using Red Dye 3 in their products. The candies are sold all over Texas and the company never updated their ingredients list.

Now, Texas, and the rest of the country, are at risk of these candies that have Red Dye 3, a known carcinogen. Which is super troubling because the popular candy will soon be seen on store shelves.

The popular candy? Peeps! More specifically, the Peeps Pink Marshmallow Chicks, Peeps Pink Marshmallow Bunnies, Peeps Lavender Marshmallow Chicks, and Peeps Lavender Marshmallow Bunnies.

Red Dye 3 is also found in other products made by the company, including Party Cake Peeps, Peeps Fruit Punch Marshmallow Chicks, and Peeps Wildberry Marshmallow Bunnies.

Consumer Reports says that the FDA has been aware for decades that Red Dye 3 can cause cancer in animals, and they also suggest that several studies have linked Red Dye 3 to hyperactivity and other neurobehavioral effects in children.

Michael Hansen, PhD, senior staff scientist for Consumer Reports says that the FDA actually banned Red Dye 3 from cosmetic products since the '90s and said:

The widespread use of Red Dye 3 is particularly concerning since it is found in many products marketed to children who are especially at risk of developing health problems from exposure.

Experts suggest you take a closer look at the ingredients list of any candy you may be purchasing. Consumer Reports also urges you to sign the petition to end Red Dye 3 in Peeps.
