Seriously? The Best Tacos In Texas Come From Austin?
Ok El Paso - you're (probably) not gonna like this. I disagree myself to be honest but here's what they're saying.
In all honesty, I haven't had every taco, from every place in the taco eating universe, but, c'mon now, they don't call El Paso the Mexican Food Capital of The World for nothing.
...and, as we all know, the Mexican food chain starts with tacos.
You can get them made with hamburger meat, fish, shrimp, pork, tripetas, barbacoa, brisket ... you can even make them with potatoes. Case in point, the ones they serve at West Side's 3rd Tavern. (You're welcome.)
Tacos are truly universal food "donors". Just like type O negative blood, EVERYONE accepts and benefits from them. Even a bad taco is, at least, an "ok" taco. Seriously, who hasn't absolutely reveled in a pair, (or 2), of Jack In The Box tacos? (Granted, usually, at 2 or 3 in the morning after last call.)
The folks at Yelp decided they know tacos best and chose a favorite. Despite all the almost magical taco experiences to be savored in El Paso, Cuantos Tacos, (at the time of this writing, parked on E. 12th Street in Austin), was named best taco in Texas.
Yep, it's a food truck and, for what it's worth, some mighty good food comes out of food trucks these days. I'm still calling BS on this though. No offense to Cuantos Tacos. I'm sure they're good, maybe even admirable, but the best? Nope.
Honestly, Yelp, come to El Chuco and look me up. I'll change your mind, and, quite probably, you're (taco) world. Accept my challenge at your leisure. The taco titans of the 915 ain't a bit worried.
