Technically speaking, it's always been illegal to sell marijuana in New Mexico but now the state is really going to start cracking down on some sales.

Not just anybody can sell mota in the land of enchantment and those that can't, but do, better look out. The real pot pushers are leaning on the state to go after the fake ones and the state is listening.

New Mexico is about to vote on creating a Marijuana Enforcement Bureau, the MEB. Which could also stand for Marijuana Es Bueno ... just sayin'.

Seriously, once they clear a business they could stamp it MEB. Not because the pot is of good quality but because that dispensary is approved to sell. Get it?  Ok, seriously, there are a lot of people selling illicit grass in New Mexico and it's hurting business for the legit operations.

What Would NM House Bill 10 Do?

The bill proposes the creation of an enforcement bureau that would be attached to the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance and would investigate alleged illegal cannabis operations; search for, seize or embargo illicit cannabis; and make arrests.

The bill would also allow the Cannabis Control Division to conduct announced or unannounced inspections of licensed cannabis producers and retailers.

At the moment, it doesn't seem like anybody really has any authority in NM to do anything to those selling illicit pot. Meaning inferior, adulterated or falsely .. maybe dangerously ... mislabeled pot or selling without proper licensing. Street sales were never legal.

House Bill 10 would change that, here's where you can "fast track" it's progress.

It's no secret that marijuana is big business in New Mexico, bringing the state 1 BILLION dollars. Little bitty 'ole Sunland Park, is leading the pack in terms of sales and now has the largest dispensary in New Mexico.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that this will pass and the MEB will have a lot more power with regard to taking down the unlicensed dealers. Note to said dealers: if you have stuff you need to get rid of quick, lemme know. I'm here to help.
