El Paso Animal Lovers Can Help Thousands of Shelter Pets This August
The Humane Society of El Paso is one of the leading non-profit shelters in the Borderland. Since 1947, they have dedicated to help the dogs & cats of El Paso to find a loving home. Thousands of animals have found new homes, thanks to the efforts of the Humane Society & the citizens who offer help.
To show just how much your donations help out, the Humane Society says that "Every dollar raised directly supports HSEP's mission to provide shelter, nutritious food, medical and foster care, enrichment, and compassionate care for more than 4,000 vulnerable animals each year".
As we get closer to August, the Humane Society is continuing their tradition of raising money for these pets, along with the help of KVIA 7.
2026 marks the Humane Society of El Paso's 33rd Annual "Happiness Happens Here"
On August 1, 2026, The Humane Society of El Paso will be hosting their 33rd Annual "Happiness Happens Here" 7-hour telethon that will be broadcast on KVIA ABC-7, from 4pm to 11pm. Throughout the telethon, viewers will get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the lifesaving work happening every day at the shelter, hear inspiring stories of hope, and meet the animals still waiting for their forever homes.
There will be the return of the Team Dog vs. Team Cat Challenge; Team Dog won the challenge last year so we will see the Team Dog will reign supreme or if it will be Team Cat in 2026). I know if Joanna was in charge, it might be Team Cat...
If you wish to donate during the telethon, people can text "DOG" or "CAT" to 915-615-2720. Donors can call 915-444-1099 for the Fred Loya Insurance Phone Bank while the telethon is happening on August 1.
If you can't tune in, people can go online to the Humane Society website anytime before or after the telethon. You can also cast your vote for Team Dog or Team Cat on the telethon link found on their website here.
