When I heard Crumbl was selling a Hot Cheetos cookie, my first thought was, "I need to try that!”

Around El Paso, Hot Cheetos aren't just a snack- they're practically part of the local food culture. We put them on fruit, elote, burgers...if there's a way to add a little crunch and spice, chances are we've already done it!

Unfortunately, I waited a little too long, and by the time I finally decided to grab one, the limited-time cookie was gone.

That turned out to be okay because after seeing all the mixed reviews online, I came away with a completely different thought:

I think an El Paso bakery could make this even better!

Crumbl’s Viral Hot Cheeto Cookie Caught My Attention

Crumbl's Hot Cheetos cookie paired a buttery cookie with cream cheese frosting and crushed Flamin' Hot Cheetos. Immediately, we all know cream cheese and Hot Cheetos are an elite combo!

It quickly became one of the chain's most talked-about flavors, with TikTok split between people who loved it:

And people who told you to avoid it completely!

El Paso Bakeries Could Take This Idea Even Further

While I was reading about the cookie, I stumbled across a video from Azúcar Morena that made me smile.

After trying Crumbl's cookie, the bakery asked followers if they should recreate it- but with Takis instead.

Now that's the kind of idea I can get behind.

It also got me thinking about how many creative bakeries we have here in El Paso. Instead of recreating Crumbl's cookie, I'd love to see them put their own spin on it. Imagine a concha-inspired cookie with a Hot Cheetos crunch, a spicy Mexican chocolate cookie or something completely original that captures the flavors of the Borderland.

El Paso Bakeries, Consider This Your Challenge

Azúcar Morena may have started the conversation, but I hope they're not the only bakery thinking about it.

El Paso has no shortage of talented bakers who aren't afraid to get creative, and this feels like the perfect opportunity to come up with something that's uniquely ours instead of simply recreating a viral trend.

If one of our local bakeries decides to take on the challenge, I'll be first in line!

And judging by how much El Paso loves Hot Cheetos, I have a feeling I won't be the only one.
