Dubba G’s Favorite Concert Venue – Remembering Tricky Falls
El Paso has, and has had, a number of concert venues and each one of them has seen some incredible shows. They all have amazing history but "Tricky" had character.
Compared to Tricky Falls, todays venues are "kids". The El Paso County Coliseum was built in 1942. The Don Haskins Center came along in 1977 and Sun Bowl Stadium is only 62 years old.
The Abraham Chavez theater opened in 1974, Lowbrow Palace came along in 2011 and the Rockhouse opened around 2015. Only The Plaza can go back in time as far as good old "Tricky".
The El Paos County Coliseum was El Paso's biggest entertainment venue from it's opening in 1942 up until the1970's when other large venues were built here. Take a peek behind "her" scenes at some parts of the Coliseum you've probably never seen.

From the wild west to the modern era, many other entertainment houses came and went. Tricky Falls and The Plaza are the oldest with The Plaza, first built in 1930, the only one of the 2 still operating as an entertainment venue.
Tricky Falls, known as The Alhambra Theater when it first opened in 1914, is now a church.
What Was So Special About Tricky Falls?
You could feel the history in the building. It provided entertainment to generations of El Pasoans in the form of live music, plays, movies and more. You didn't just go there for a concert, it was an experience. A step back in time.
Who Performed At Tricky Falls?
I doubt folks in The Alhambra days could have even begun to grasp the entertainers that would perform there in the modern age. I can't name all the acts that have played Tricky Falls ... jeez, I can't even remember all the ones I myself saw there ... but there were some great ones.
