Insider Monkey looked into data from the County Health Rankings on their excessive drinking rate. In cases where two or more counties had the same rates of excessive drinking, they resorted to using their percentage of driving deaths with alcohol involvement as a tiebreaker.

Insider Monkey's data found that Loving County is the drunkest county in all of Texas.

While Loving County wasn't the drunkest in the entire country, it did rank in at number 12! Of Loving County, Insider Monkey says:

Excessive Drinking Rate: 24%. Excessive drinking rate for Texas was recorded at 19% in 2023. In Loving County, the rate is considerably higher, making it the drunkest county in the state.

Loving County is situated in West Texas, near the New Mexico border. It's part of the larger Permian Basin, which is rich in oil. Despite its small population, the county covers an area of approximately 677 square miles.

As of recent estimates, Loving County has fewer than 100 residents. The exact population can fluctuate but typically hovers around 60 to 80 people. The small population is mostly made up of oilfield workers, ranchers, and their families. The population density is extremely low, giving it a rural and isolated feel. Which would probably explain the excessive drinking!
