There are a lot of things I expected to become a trend this summer.
Pool days? Sure. Mocktails? Absolutely. Spending $14 on an iced coffee and calling it self-care? Unfortunately, also yes. But people going bar hopping for Diet Coke?
That one definitely wasn't on my bingo card, yet here we are.
A trend called the Diet Coke Crawl has been popping up all over social media, with groups of friends spending an afternoon going from place to place in search of the perfect Diet Coke. And the more videos I watched, the more I found myself thinking the same thing:

The Viral Diet Coke Crawl Trend Is Surprisingly Simple
The rules are easy.
Gather a few friends, map out a handful of restaurants, drive-thrus or convenience stores and order a Diet Coke at each stop. Then comes the important part: judging them!
People rate everything from the carbonation and syrup ratio to the ice, the cup and even whether it comes with a lemon. It's essentially a bar crawl, just with fountain drinks instead of cocktails.
As silly as it sounds, there's something oddly entertaining about watching people passionately defend their favorite Diet Coke- because trust me, there is a difference!
El Paso Feels Like the Perfect Place for This Trend
The more I watched, the more convinced I became that this trend belongs here.
El Paso loves a good food debate. We’ll happily drive across town because someone swears one place has the best tacos, burgers, burritos or coffee. A Diet Coke Crawl feels like it fits right into that tradition.
Instead of planning a night around bars, why not plan an afternoon around a fun route, a few friends and a bunch of fountain drinks?
It sounds a little ridiculous. It also sounds like a really good time.
A Diet Coke Crawl Could Be El Paso's Next Big Trend
Maybe this is just a sign that I've reached a certain stage of adulthood.
A few years ago, I probably would've laughed at the idea of spending a Saturday driving around to drink Diet Coke.
Now?
Hand me a crispy Diet Coke, good company, a playlist for the drive and an afternoon of debating which stop got it just right, and I'm completely on board!
And who knows? Maybe this is the internet trend El Paso didn't know it needed.
