For over 100 years, El Paso has enjoyed the experience of going to a movie theater and seeing cinema on the big screen. We still have theaters if we wanna go to the movies like Tinseltown, Flix Brewhouse, or our AMC theaters. You could also still relive the magic of going to a drive in theater like the Blue Moon Drive-In, which was featured on The Texas Bucket List a while ago.

However we know there are several places that have come and gone within the city's long history.

How many movie theaters have closed down in El Paso?

According to Cinema Treasures, a website dedicated to showing news involving movie theaters all over the United States, they've listed a total of 45 different theaters that have closed in El Paso. They've even listed those have been torn down and are no longer with us.

One example includes the old Capri Theater that was located in Downtown El Paso that was down the street from The Plaza Theater.

That was the same movie theater that premiered the original 1966 showing of Manos: The Hands of Fate. You could even see photos of the theater included in TheDailyWoo’s trip of El Paso while finding the original filming locations used in the film on YouTube.

Other theaters that have been torn down include the Bronco Drive In on Alameda, the Cinema Park Drive-In on Montana, or the Fox Theater on Geronimo or the Northgate on Dyer.

However there ARE some that are closed but the buildings are still standing that we can at least look back on and remember the memories they gave us.

If you have photos of any of these theaters when they were were open, please feel free to send photos through our app!
