It’s Time to Move the Super Bowl to Saturday
For 52 previous Super Bowls, the game has been played on Sunday. And it's looking like that won't be changing anytime soon. Just last month, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was asked about moving the big game to Saturday.
"That [idea] has been around for a long time, people have talked about that," Goodell said of moving the Super Bowl to a Saturday. "The reason we haven't done it in the past is simply just from an audience standpoint. The audiences on Sunday night are so much larger. Fans want to have the best opportunity to be able to see the game and we want to give that to them, so Sunday night is a better night."
The argument against this is the Super Bowl is the one TV event that happens every year that people will schedule around. I get that most other weekends, Sundays will pull a bigger audience, but this is the Super Bowl.
You would probably get a a bigger audience if the Super Bowl were on a Saturday. There are people out there who don't go to Super Bowl parties because they have to work on Monday morning. You would be gaining that audience. And I'm not sure you're going to be losing a whole lot by moving the game to Saturday.
It's a win/win situation. The NFL gets a bigger audience, and we don't have to worry about getting up the next morning for work. Boom.
