Your average holiday card nowadays costs between $2 and $5. Throw on a postage stamp, and multiply by the number of friends and family. It gets expensive.

Many people are opting to go the paperless route in general. With Facebook, Instagram, email and more, it's pretty easy to post a family update or send an electronic greeting.

Cell Phones

Cell phone cameras are everywhere. It's simple to snap a picture of the family pet or that ugly sweater and send it off. Things have come a long way since the days of having prints developed.

Time

It's a legitimate reason. With all the end-of-year demands, time is precious. If you're writing cards by hand, the time commitment can be quite a lot.

Friendship Downgrade

This may be a tough pill to swallow, but perhaps some friendships just aren't what they used to be. Lives veer in different directions. Besides, it's hard to maintain a friendship with a once-a-year greeting.
