The varsity football team was able to pull off their second win of the season, stopping a late rally and keeping the Bel Air Highlanders on the ranks of the defeated on Friday night as they won their second game of the season, 35-28.

The Knights (2-6, 2-4 district 1-5A) will play the Montwood Rams (6-2, 5-1 district 1-5A) on Thursday, Oct. 27 at the SAC.  Game time is 7 p.m.

Middle-school night filled Excalibur Stadium which gave the team extreme energy to start the game.  The night started great as junior Patrick Pettis (2 rec, 64 yards, 1 TD) caught a 34-yard pass from junior Emilio Noriega (10-for-16, 188 yards, 2 TDs) to make the score 7-0.

After the first score, the Knights put the game on the shoulders of senior Adonis Powell, who rushed for 243 yards on 21 carries and three touchdowns, including a season-long 72-yard run.  With two games left, Powell has already rushed for 1,237 yards.  He is averaging an eye-popping 7.98 yards per carry.

Senior Damon Burkett (3 rec, 69 yards, 1 TD) would help the Knights extend the lead to 27-7.  Before the first half ended, the Highlanders were able to get another touchdown to cut the lead to 13 points.

The Highlanders put up two touchdowns in the second half and were driving until senior Cajh Malone stopped Highlander quarterback Brandon Vasquez on fourth down late in the game to seal the game for the Knights.

Final score 35-28.
