After most teams took last week off, district play is here on the borderland, which means playoff hopes and district championships will be at stake during the opening week of league play.

From now to the end of the season, there will be big games all across town. Tonight's YMCA Game of the Week will be Eastlake (3-2) at Eastwood (2-3). The Troopers are coming off a big win two weeks ago against Montwood (36-31), while the Falcons themselves had a huge upset over top-ranked Pebble Hills (30-28). This could be a huge game in terms of seeding for both these teams in the new Super-5A district.

Americas (3-2) and Franklin (3-2) will meet up in an interesting 1-6A matchup that could decide who is for real within the district. With Montwood barely sliding past Coronado last night (17-10), each game in 1-6A becomes really important from here on out because between Pebble Hills, Montwood, Franklin, Coronado and Americas, one will be left out of playoff contention.

Speaking of playoffs, games like Irvin (5-1) at Bowie (2-3), Austin (4-2) at El Paso (4-2) and Horizon (2-3) at Riverside (2-3) could determine the last seed for playoff contention, so both those matchups will be important matchups.

Another game to keep an eye out for is Canutillo (2-3) at Ysleta (5-0). This could go down to the wire, as the Indians are hoping for their best start in years going into their game against Parkland next week.
