The Bravos de FC Juarez failed to acquire their first win of the 2016 Clausura season in their home opener Saturday night against Mineros de Zacatecas. The team from the Borderland and Mineros played to a scoreless draw (0-0) in front of more than 12,000 people at Benito Juarez Olympic Stadium.

With the draw the Bravos have now acquired 2 points on the season (they tied in their season opener last week against Lobos BUAP by a score of 1-1) good enough for 9th place in the general standings table.

The first half the game saw the local side show glimpses of their proficiency during their championship run just weeks ago, the only difference is that ball did not go in the goal.

The second half of the game saw a visiting team in Mineros that made adjustments that resulted in more frequent and clearer chances of putting the ball in the back of the net than any of those created by FC Juarez.

After the game the head coach for Mineros de Zacatecas, Joel Sanchez, appeared to be more upset by the result of the match than that of Bravos head Coach Sergio Orduna.

Sanchez commented, “I believe the second half of the match belonged to us. We had created the clearest chances to score and we became more more proactive in attempting to win the game when compared to the local team and I feel my team deserved a better result. I am not leaving the Borderland happy, we came here to acquire 3 points in order to help us obtain the objectives we set out to accomplish this season.”

For the Bravos, Sergio Orduna commented, “We failed to be thorough against a very good team in Zacatecas. We had 3 or 4 clear opportunities to score, unfortunately we fail to make them count. However, continuing to perform the way we performed tonight I feel that we will be closer to winning matches than not.”

The team had a training session early Sunday morning as they have will have 2 games in the span of 7 days. The Bravos will play Chivas de Guadalajara on Wednesday in the Copa MX at Benito Juarez Olympic Stadium at 7:30pm and resume league play by traveling to Aguascalientes to play Necaxa on Saturday evening.
