Shooting Victim in Downtown Amarillo

Officers with the Amarillo Police Department heard shots on Monday, March 20th at 10 pm.  Upon arrival at the area of SW 2nd and Tyler, they found Leroy Wells, a 38-year-old male, deceased with an apparent gunshot wound.  The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating.  If you have any information please call Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400 or amapolice.org.

Update: The suspect was identified as Joseph Patrick Smith, a 21-year-old male. Smith was charged with Murder and booked into the Potter County Detention Center. The case remains under investigation.

Man Refused to Drop Rifle, Police Show Disapproval

Then on Tuesday, March 21st around 9 am, Amarillo Police Officers were called to the 2000 block of Paramount Blvd on a report of a man with a rifle.  Reportedly the caller to 911 said this male had made threats to another person.   APD made contact with the suspect, but he refused the officers' commands and would not drop his weapon.  The suspect then raised the weapon at the officers and shots was fired.  The male suspect was shot and died at the scene.  No APD officers were injured.  This incident is still under investigation. The deceased man was identified as 49-year-old Kevin Keith Langemeier.

Two Shooting Victims in Borger--But Who Was Shooting Who?

The Borger Police Department was called out to an incident on Monday, March 20th in the 300 block of Madison.  Upon arrival, officers found two gunshot victims.  They were both transported to Golden Plains Community Hospital, one by air ambulance.  Borger Police detained two persons of interest at the scene.  The incident is still under investigation.

I could go on....But I'm afraid someone will shoot me. So please, put your weapons up already. Ain't nobody got time or insurance to get shot.

REVIEW: Amarillo Homicides in 2022

The year 2021 saw a staggering 24 homicides in Amarillo, Texas--the highest number the city had seen since 1994. A lower figure for 2022 was predicted, but the year finished out with a total of 28 homicides.

Below is a partial list of those accused in this year's murders. We have intentionally left off this list those who have been No Billed by a grand jury, had their charges modified to a lesser offense, or wherein the accused is a juvenile.

This is not an exhaustive list and is subject to change, pending legal proceedings.

Hutchinson County has plenty of people who have committed a criminal blunder (or two). And just like any other bigger city, jail is no fun. However, some of the residents of Borger and Stinnett are believers in keeping their spirits high in the face of adversity.

Well....let's just say that Randall County's cheerful inmates aren't the only ones who seem happy to be arrested....While there’s nothing funny about committing a crime, these offenders in Hutchinson County certainly do know how to light up a pod with their smile :-)
