El Paso Chihuahuas Release New Jerseys Including Howling Logo
It might have been a midday press conference, but the El Paso Chihuahuas were ready to "Bark at the Moon". The team released new jerseys, caps, and logos for the 2019 season, including a new howling logo and throwback Diablos jersey.
"In our sixth season, the All-Star Season, it was time to add to the iconic family of Chihuahuas logos," said Senior Vice President and General Manager Brad Taylor in the official press release. "These logos embody the fun we, and the community, associate with Chihuahuas baseball. We are also proud to add the star on the mountain to our primary road jersey."
The Howling Chihuahuas logo features the profile of the Chihuahuas logo wearing a sombrero with “EP” across the brim signifying El Paso. At first, I thought the brim spelled "Pepe", but I was told that "EP" is the correct wording. Also, a black alternate jersey will feature the Howling Chihuahuas with colorful trim on the sleeves similar to a serape – a traditional cloak or blanket in the Hispanic culture.
As for the Diablos look, it is the same style the team wore at Cohen Stadium between 1999 and 2004. The "Chile D" Pepper look was a popular one with fans and the team decided to bring it back and wear the throwback jersey and cap on Wednesdays for Diablo Days next season.
My personal favorite is their new main road jersey for the 2019 season. It features a graduated gray landscape of the Franklin Mountains with the mountain star. The El Paso word mark has been updated from the original dual tones of white and tan to a clean and crisp white look. I think the Chihuahuas hit a grand slam with their new gray road jersey although the kids will love the howling Chihuahua. The new merchandise is already available for fans to purchase at the Durango Team Shop.
The team also announced today ticket on-sale dates for All Star Game and Home Run Derby. Full Season Seat Holders get first crack at purchasing bundle packages to both beginning tomorrow at 8 a.m. Paw-tial Season Seat Holders get the next opportunity on Monday, November 19th at 8 a.m., while fans who placed a deposit on group tickets will have their chance next Tuesday. If fans expressed an interest online in attending the All Star Game, they will have the opportunity to pre-purchase their tickets on Wednesday, November 21st. The Chihuahuas will make All Star Game and Home Run Derby tickets available to the general public on Cyber Monday.
