Aldon Smith is a great football player. Off the field though there are major question marks. The Dallas Cowboys are hoping he will bring some of that talent on the field, and avoid the off field issues.

Defensive end Aldon Smith has signed a one-year deal worth $4 million with the Dallas Cowboys. You can CLICK HERE to see a full timeline of Smith's issues. He hasn't played since 2015, and still needs to be reinstated by the NFL, but the Cowboys are confident that will happen.

Despite that confidence, it's still not a given that Smith will be reinstated. ESPN's Ed Werder said:

A league source said that commissioner Roger Goodell is yet to determine Aldon Smith's eligibility to return to play in the NFL and that his unresolved status is the same as that of Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory in terms of the reinstatement process.

If Smith is able to stay out of trouble and get back to his form, he'll bring a major positive on the field for the Cowboys defense. But that's a BIG if.
