A handful of weeks in the books and Conference USA football is still as wide open as it can be. Week five brings a couple of league matchups along with three games against American Athletic Conference programs.

Defending conference champions UAB have got off to a hot start to the season with a 3-0 record following their 35-3 win over South Alabama. They will square off against Western Kentucky this week to try and start 4-0.

Louisiana Tech had a nice outing by their junior tailback Justin Henderson, who rushed 15 times for 141 yards to lift the Bulldogs to a 43-31 win over FIU.

And how about the beating North Texas put on UTSA Saturday night? The Mean Green put up 45 points and held the struggling Roadrunners to just 3 points. Among the nice skill players on North Texas stands sophomore running back Tre Siggers, emerging as a key weapon for the team and put up 143 rushing yards and a pair of scores against UTSA.

Fortunately for the struggling Miners, there are a few teams that are off to worse starts like UTSA (1-3), FIU (1-3) and Rice (0-4).

Here is the schedule for this week:

  • Middle Tennessee at #14 Iowa
  • Florida Atlantic at Charlotte
  • Cincinnati at Marshall Tickets
  • East Carolina at Old Dominion
  • UTEP at Southern Mississippi
  • UAB at Western Kentucky
  • Louisiana Tech at Rice
  • Houston at North Texas
