The City of El Paso is closing down daycare and pre-school programs at two locations beginning Wednesday, March 18 and will remain closed until further notice.

If you have a child enrolled at the daycare centers or pre-school programs at the Galatzan Recreation Center in west El Paso at 650 Wallenberg, or the Veterans Recreation Center in northeast El Paso at 5301 Salem, you can register them at the YWCA for the same fees that are currently offered at the Parks and Recreation Department. If you have pre-paid your fees at the Galatzan or Veterans Recreation Center facilities, the fees will transfer to the YWCA if you decide to enroll them in the YWCA program.

City officials say they know that this change poses a challenge to families, and that is why they have partnered with the YWCA Paso del Norte Region to provide service to affected families so you can keep your children enrolled in early learning programs.

You can find a YWCA in their neighborhood by contacting the YWCA online at www.ywcaelpaso.org or call (915) 519-0000.

City parks, libraries, museums and the Zoo remain open, but the special programming at these locations are suspended until further notice. All Senior Centers remain closed but meals for seniors will still be available beginning Tuesday, March 17.

If you would like to see a complete list of closures, cancellations, and suspensions click on the COVID-19 Information and Status banner at elpasotexas.gov.

You can also call 2-1-1 for the Texas Information and Referral Center 24/7, and select option 6.
