A contested call that led to two ninth inning ejections did not stop the El Paso Chihuahuas from beating the Las Vegas 51s 4-3 Friday night at Southwest University Park. El Paso was ahead 4-2 with two outs in the ninth inning when Las Vegas infielder Josh Satin hit a line drive into the right field corner that the Chihuahuas were convinced landed foul. An argument in shallow right field ensued, leading to the ejections of manager Pat Murphy and right fielder Jeff Francoeur. With Satin, the potential tying run, at third base, Blaine Boyer got Zach Lutz to ground out and end the game.
El Paso starting pitcher Jason Lane hurled six innings and allowed just two runs. He also went 1-for-2 at the plate with an RBI double, a walk and a run scored. Francoeur went 2-for-4 in the win, while Jake Goebbert and Alex Castellanos chipped in with the other two hits for El Paso. Jace Peterson went 0-for-4, ending a six-game hitting streak.
The Chihuahuas have won two games in a row and five of their last seven.
Starting pitcher Jason Lane helped his own cause with a RBI double in the second to put the Chihuahuas ahead 3-1.
In the sixth, Jace Peterson gave the Chihuahuas the insurance run they would later need on this fly ball to shallow left and this happened...
