While the UTEP football team prepares for their September 5th home opener against Stephen F. Austin, the Miners soccer and volleyball seasons will be on hold until next year. Today, Conference USA announced that both sports will start their respective seasons in the spring of 2021.

The move comes after the NCAA Division 1 Board of Governors decided to move fall championships to next spring. If the conference is concerned about the health and well-being of its student athletes, the only justification to keep football in the fall but move every other sport to the spring of 2021 is money. Football and basketball generate the most revenue of every university's athletic department in America. The rest of the sports are funded by the money that both football and basketball generate. Still, today's news sends a mixed message to student athletes as well as Title 9.

The UTEP soccer team finished 10-7-3 in 2019 and advanced to the C-USA championship tournament while the volleyball team finished last season 13-15 overall and 6-8 in conference play.
