Both UTEP Men’s and Women’s Basketball Team’s Games End in Multiple OT’s with an 88-87 Score
In an incredible twist of irony, both of the UTEP Men's and Women's basketball team's games ended on Thursday night by overtime buzzer beaters with a final score of 88-87 against FIU. The men's basketball team ended a 12 game losing streak with an incredible double overtime buzzer beater by Dominic Artis with 1.6 seconds remaining in the second OT in what turned out to be a classic game at the Don Haskins Center.
In a game you heard live on 600 ESPN El Paso, the UTEP Women's basketball team played at FIU in Miami and lost 88-87 in heartbreaking fashion in triple overtime as Kristian Hudson made a miracle 3-pointer from 35 feet away to give the Panthers the stunning victory. Sparkle Taylor had given the Miners an 87-85 lead with 2.9 seconds left with a jumper, and it looked as though the women's basketball team would get the win, but FIU had other plans.
Without question it was a crazy night for UTEP Men's and Women's basketball against FIU, one that in a bizarre twist of fate saw both teams going into multiple overtimes and ending in the exact same score via buzzer beaters. This truly was an unprecedented occurrence in sports, one that we may never see again in the history of UTEP athletics.
