The El Paso Chihuahuas left nine runners on base in their 4-2 loss to the Salt Lake Bees Friday at Southwest University Park. El Paso had multiple inning-ending hard-hit outs, including Jace Peterson’s one-hopper to third base in the ninth inning, which Salt Lake third baseman Grant Green made a diving play on to end the game.
Green’s solo home run put Salt Lake ahead 1-0 in the first inning. El Paso tied the game in the bottom of the third on Chris Nelson’s two-out RBI single. The Bees went ahead 4-1 after scoring twice in the fourth and once in the fifth. A baserunning move by Jonathan Galvez was responsible for the Chihuahuas second run. Galvez distracted Green on a ground ball hit by Jake Lemmerman and Jeff Francoeur scored when Green misplayed the ball.
Francoeur went 2-for-4 Friday and is now seven for his last ten. Reymond Fuentes went 2-for-4 including a ninth-inning double. Jason Lane pitched seven innings and allowed four earned runs in the loss.
The game was tied at one a piece after this Chris Nelson RBI single in the third inning.
This heads up play by Jonathan Galvez in the 6th pulled the Chihuahuas within two and that is a close as they would get.
