Long Running El Paso Christmas Event Canceled Over COVID-19 Concerns

One of El Paso’s longest running Christmas-time events won't be happening this year.

The Junior League of El Paso announced it is canceling ‘A Christmas Fair’ out of an abundance of caution and in the best interest of public health.

After much deliberation and consideration of our community, Junior League members, the Christmas Fair 2020 Event Team, along with the Board of Directors have decided to cancel our traditional in-person seasonal Fair – Statement by Junior League of El Paso

“This was not an easy decision,” continued the statement. “But the Junior League of El Paso believes it is the right thing to do.”

Considered a Yuletide tradition by many El Pasoans, ‘A Christmas Fair’ has officially kicked off the holiday season in El Paso for over four decades. This will be the first time in 47 years the event has been canceled.

Year after year, the holiday gift market has attracted over 200 merchants from around the country and hundreds of shoppers daily over its typical 3-day run. With an event that size, it was the right decision given the uncertainty of the pandemic and the current mandates and guidelines.

But, alas, the League does offer a glimmer of hope.

Don’t hang up your skis and vests just yet – the Christmas Fair 2020 Team is working diligently to create some exciting, innovative, and socially-distant alternatives to keep our community’s spirit strong and ready to hit the slopes this holiday season!
