600 ESPN El Paso to Broadcast 2017-18 UTEP Women’s Basketball Games
UTEP released their 2017-18 women's basketball schedule yesterday and the Miners will play seven games away from the Don Haskins Center in their non-conference portion.
"We look forward to our pre-season schedule," head coach Kevin Baker said in the official release. "We will begin our season with six straight home contests. We are very excited about the opportunity to play in front of our great fan-base."
This year the team returns home in late November to host Arkansas and Texas Southern in their Thanksgiving Classic.
"We are really excited about our Thanksgiving Classic," Baker said. "We will play two upper level teams in Arkansas and Texas Southern. Soon after, we will hit the road to Myrtle Beach to play East Carolina and then to New Orleans to participate in the Tulane Classic. We will then tune up for conference play by heading out to Los Angeles to play Cal State Fullerton and UC-Riverside. We hope that this competitive schedule helps our team improve daily and prepares us for tough conference play."
As for league play, C-USA coaches adopted a different schedule this season and they elected to play 16 conference games rather than 18. They also concentrated on the strongest RPI teams from a season ago playing against each other twice in league play in order to give C-USA a better opportunity to increase their RPI and send multiple teams to the NCAA Tournament. "We are very excited about the new Conference USA schedule," Baker said. "Our conference has worked very hard to put together a new format which will undoubtedly enhance our chances to put several teams in the mix to obtain a spot in the NCAA Tournament."
For the fourth consecutive season, 600 ESPN El Paso will broadcast UTEP women's basketball games, with former Miners star Traci Miller joining either Brandon Cohn, Duke Keith, Tim Hagerty, or Steve Kaplowitz courtside for all of the action.
