While most UTEP fans are thinking about the last five games of the football season, Joe Golding and the men's basketball team started practicing a few weeks back. Thursday night, they will be conducting a free work out at Eastwood High School for all fans wanting to attend.

The practice will be the first of its kind at a local high school for the UTEP men's basketball team. Fans will not only have an opportunity to get their first look at the all-new 2022-23 roster, but they will also be able to meet Coach Golding and the Miners after the workout.

I love this concept for Coach Golding and his team and I have always believed that conducting special events at local high school gyms is a terrific way to bond the El Paso community with the Miners. I hope that becomes an annual event and UTEP will conduct similar workouts at other El Paso high schools.

In other news, the Miners will play a pair of closed scrimmages later this month. Jeff Goodman reported that on Saturday, October 22nd, Tarleton State will scrimmage the Miners at the Don Haskins Center and one week later, UTEP will play Texas Tech in Lubbock. These scrimmages are not open to fans or media.

Former UTEP head coach Doc Sadler will be returning to El Paso on November 1st for the second annual "Dinner in the Don" event. Sadler led the Miners to an NCAA Tournament and NIT appearance in his two seasons as UTEP head coach. He arrived as an assistant to Billy Gillispie and was extremely popular with the UTEP fan base. Coach Golding will preview his 2022-23 team to all attendees. Jon Teicher will emcee the event, with proceeds benefiting the UTEP men's basketball program. Tickets to "Dinner at the Don" are priced at $50 and they include a cash bar. Tables of eight are also available for purchase at $1,000 and they include one student athlete or coach. Tickets are available for purchase online or by calling (915) 747-6787.
