The Miners were competitive through three quarters against C-USA leaders UAB on Friday night before the Blazers went on a 16-1 run to open the fourth quarter en route to the 84-64 victory.  UAB's impressive run in the final quarter resulted in the Blazers outscoring UTEP by a whopping 30-12 margin during the final ten minutes of the contest.

UTEP, 13-8, 4-4 C-USA was led by Jordan Alexander who tallied a career-high 18 points, while Tamara Seda added 10 points,10 rebounds, Najala Howell contributed with 10 points, Zuzanna Puc 10 points, nine boards, and Katarina Zec pitched in nine.  As has been the case the majority of the season, the Miners simply couldn't put together four solid quarters, and UAB took advantage of that during the most crucial period.

The Miners shot 41 percent from the floor on 25-61 shooting, and finished with 17 assists to only 11 turnovers, but they simply didn’t have enough firepower to keep pace with the Blazers for the entire contest. UAB finished at 53.4 percent on 31-58 shooting, including 47.2 percent, 17-36 from downtown.  The Blazers concluded the game by shooting 84.6 percent on 11-13 shooting in the final 10 minutes of action.

UTEP will now travel to face interstate rivals UTSA at 1 p.m. MST Sunday. Steve Kaplowitz will be joined by 1966 Texas Western men’s basketball team member Nevil 'The Shadow' Shed for the call of the contest on 600 ESPN El Paso's free app.
