Fun, Outdoor Things to Do in El Paso During Memorial Day Weekend
Hard to believe the Memorial Day is already upon us. OMG, where has half the year gone!
Because things are just starting to return to normal, there aren't as many events and activities going on this year. But if you're ready to make up for lost time, Memorial Day Weekend is a good time to start. Here's a list of fun, outdoor activities to consider.
Ghost Walks
If you're into the spooky stuff and like investigating locations believed to be haunted, listening to ghost stories, and hearing all about our haunted history check out a ghost walk. Stroll through Sunset Heights with Lost El Paso Paranormal, or take a slow drive through Concordia with Ghosts 915, or join El Paso Ghost Tours for a downtown walk that ends in a real paranormal investigation inside the notoriously haunted De Soto Hotel basement.
Go camping in the new city water park
Okay, you can't really camp out at Camp Cohen Water Park, I was trying to be cute with the headline. The first of four regional water parks set to welcome guests this summer, Camp Cohen opens Saturday, May 29, at the former Cohen Stadium site in the Northeast.
Splash Around
If getting wet is what the kids are looking to do but on a much smaller level, then head out to one of the city neighborhood splash pads. There are 9 located throughout El Paso, each with numerous water features, shaded areas and picnic tables -- and best of all, they're all free to use and open to the public.
Chiquis Concert
Do you like Chiquis Rivera's music? Want to see her in an outdoor setting and not have to pay to get in? Speaking Rock is your best friend, then. The singer-performer and daughter of the late Jenni Rivera will be taking the stage Saturday, May 29, at The Rock.
Baseball and Fireworks
Kicking back after the game to “ooh” and “aah” as the skyline explodes into a colorful canopy of red, white and boom is a post game highlight for many baseball-loving El Pasoans. Memorial Day Weekend, the Chihuahuas will continue the popular tradition of fireworks nights after ‘90s Night, Saturday, May 29, and on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31.
Grill 'n Chill
With slides and attractions, a humongous wave pool, cabanas, and lots of shade trees, Wet 'N Wild has lots of ways to cool off, get wet, and Grill 'N Chill with the fam.
Get Wild
If you’re looking to get wild, but not necessarily wet, pay the El Paso Zoo a visit. Several indoor exhibits and attractions reopen on Memorial Day, May 31. In addition, the carousel and train ride will be back in service. Getting wet is an option, too. The splash pad is open as well.
Take Them Ice Skating
Get your glide on at the El Paso County Sierra Providence Events Center -- home of the area's only indoor public ice skating rink. Not only is it fun and a great escape from the heat, it’s relatively cheap too. Admission includes skate rental
