Texas Family Has 18 Test Positive for COVID-19 After Party
Areas across the United States are seeing a massive uptick in COVID-19 cases. Not shockingly, it's the places that started to open up first to "get things back to normal". Well, there's one family in Texas that tried to get back to normal with a surprise party. Now 18 members of that family have tested positive for COVID-19 with three of them in the hospital.
Back on May 30th, the family had a surprise party and the host of the party didn't know he had COVID-19. He thought a cough was just that. A simple cough. The family did try to abide by the social distancing guidelines but it wasn't enough.
Ron Barbosa, a member of the family, didn't attend the family, but has talked about the party:
It wasn't that long. It was only a couple of hours. But during that brief time, somehow the other 18 family members are now infected with COVID.
A total of 25 people attended the party and Barbosa added:
When people started getting sick, we really let everyone have it. We knew this was going to happen, I mean this whole time this has been going on we've been terrified.
Of the 18 family members that are sick, included are:
- Two young children
- Two grandparents
- A cancer patient
- Barbosa's parents who are in their 80s
Most of the family is starting to recover, but Barbosa's parents aren't doing well. Frank and Carole Barbosa were high school sweethearts and have been married for more than 68 years. Carole has been in the hospital since June 13th, and Frank is in the ICU, on life support.
The family is asking for anyone who has had COVID-19 to donate plasma, as this may help getting antibodies to those that are sick.
