Yup, two of New Mexico's most dangerous cities are practically part of El Paso.

While El Paso consistently ranks highly on the safest American cities lists, our neighbors to the north haven't scored as well.

A list posted by travelsafe.com listed the most dangerous cities in New Mexico and 2 of them are very close to El Paso. El Paso, ironically, being one of Americas safest cities.  Crazy, huh?

Our neighbors in Deming, New Mexico seem to be the total opposite. They took the number three spot on the travelsafe.com list.

Located just 100 miles from E.P., Deming doesn't seem big enough to have a major crime problem. The population is only 14,000 people but they have ranked among the top 5 most dangerous NM cities for several years running now.

Violent crime data reports 963 per 100,000, and residents will likely be victimized by 1 in 108 occurrences.

And with over 5,153 property crimes per 100,000, the crime ratio is a 1 in 19 chance – travelsafe

Right next to El Paso, practically touching us, Las Cruces cracked the top 10 at number 8. While they are the 2nd biggest city in New Mexico, the population of Las Cruces isn't exactly huge either. At least, not by "big city" standards.

Cruces is home to 113,000 potential victims ... umm ... I mean people.

Violent crimes are reported at 500 per 100,000 and property theft at 3,580 per 100,000.

This translates for residents as a 1 in 208 probability of encountering violence and a 1 in 28 chance of having property stolen. - travelsafe

On the upside, our buds in Anthony, Alamogordo and Ruidoso made the safest New Mexico cities list.
