Man Arrested at Gym in Lafayette After Assaulting Female and Police Officer
Lafayette Police have arrested a man after he allegedly punched a female in a gym and then allegedly assaulted a police officer.
Police responded to a disturbance early Tuesday morning at Planet Fitness located at 3500 Ambassador Caffery after a man reportedly walked into the gym and demanded the phone from a female inside the facility.
When she refused to give the man her phone and attempted to leave the gym, the man allegedly punched her and then left the gym.
Upon trying to leave, the man did burnouts in the parking lot and struck three vehicles in front of the gym.
When police arrived, they located the suspect, and when an officer attempted to arrest the man he went on the attack.
According to KLFY-TV, the man allegedly punched and bit the Lafayette Police Officer who was trying to detain him. A taser was reportedly deployed on the subject when it came time to arrest him.
The news station also says that the man was taken to a hospital for injuries he sustained when he hit the vehicles.
However, when he is released from the medical facility, the suspect will be booked on a number of charges that include simple battery, resisting an officer, battery of a police officer, and a citation for reckless operation of a vehicle.

UPDATE: The man, in this case, has been identified as Idi Wajima Kitt, 47 of Shorter, AL. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
