Looking Back On The 2016 El Paso Chihuahuas Championship Run

This weekend, after winning 4 games at home against the Oklahoma City Dodgers, our very own El Paso Chihuahuas became the 2022 Pacific Coast East League Champions; making it their 5 division title overall. It was after Saturday's game that they were able to clinch the title, and even with the tie breaker, they punched their ticket to face off against the Reno Aces on Friday for the Pacific Coast championship.

So since they have a chance to get their 2nd championship, let's take a look at their 1st championship win in 2016.

The first battle was against the Tacoma Rainiers, which the Chihuahuas were able to beat in a best of 5, winning in game 4. The championship match up was against the Oklahoma City Dodgers.

OKC may have won the first game but the Chihuahuas had a boost in morale when we won game 2 at against OKC, 10-4.

But the winning game came on September 18th, 2016, when we beat OKC in game 4. The final score being 4-3 in the 11th inning. This was the first time El Paso won a baseball championship since 1994. The moment was made even more special with the voice of the Chihuahuas, Tim Hagerty, calling it live on the air for everyone to hear.

As of right now, 2016 is the only time the EP Chihuahuas have won the Le ague championship but they have other titles:

• 5 division titles (2015,16,17,18, 22)
• & 2 Conference titles (2016,2017).

Will the Chihuahuas get their 2nd championship in 2022? We'll see when they face off against the Reno Aces this Friday & hopefully at the Triple-A National Championship game on Sunday. You can of course hear the games on our partner station, 600 ESPN El Paso.
