Red Sox Legend Jason Varitek Surprises Clueless Fan at at Canobie Lake Park
Just like so many other New England dads, former Red Sox captain Jason Varitek was enjoying a family day at Canobie Lake Park earlier this week.
As the retired catcher approached one of the concession stands, his eagle-eyed wife, Catherine, spotted something interesting. The guy standing in line was wearing a Red Sox T-shirt with Varitek's name and No. 33 on the back.
Catherine, Jason and the kids decided to have some fun.

Tek walked up to the man, who was eating a slice of pizza as he waited for the rest of his order.
"Let me ask you, how is the pizza?" Varitek asked.
The man paused, thinking about his response, then looked Varitek dead in the eye and answered, "Did you ever have Mama Celeste? It's a step down from that. Tastes like microwavable pizza."
He had no idea.
"I like your T-shirt," Catherine told the man. "Are you a fan of his?"
"Oh yeah," said the guy in the Varitek T-shirt, as he bit into his slice. "Always."
"He doesn't play anymore, though," Catherine said.
"No, sometimes you still see him at the games, though," the fan replied three feet away from Varitek's face.
"She made me come over and say hello; I'm Jason," said the captain, extending his hand for a shake.
Varitek has ties to the SouthCoast.
His wife is a Wareham native and his in-laws reportedly now live in Marion.
Varitek has been spotted a number of times around the SouthCoast, including on Christmas Eve 2012, when he stopped into the Fun 107 morning show to drop off muffins.
He and his wife were out doing random acts of kindness and Catherine wanted to stop in on her favorite radio station.
