Well, as the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end.” That is the case when it comes to local dairy, Farmers Dairies.

According to KVIA, Farmers Select Dairy, an institution that's been churning out creamy goodness for decades, is sadly closing its doors. *cries in Spanish*

I fondly remember always driving past the Dairy whenever I was heading to my grandma’s house in El Paso’s Lower Valley, and as an adult it was a building I always saw when I was heading to classes at El Paso Community College’s Valle Verde campus.

For generations, the 7300 block of North Loop in the Lower Valley had been home to Farmers Select Dairy, providing El Paso and the surrounding Borderland community with the freshest, most delicious milk.

Whether you were a fan of ice-cold glasses of milk, creamy butter, or rich cheeses, this dairy was a reliable source of dairy delights for many, but according to local media reports the dairy is set to cease operations by the end of September.

A little History on Farmers Dairy:

This closure marks the end of an era that began over a century ago. Nearly six years ago, Farmers Dairies, owned and operated by the Luis Navar family, merged with Hawkins Dairy, previously owned by W.W. Hawkins.

Farmers Dairies, established in 1921 by Luis Navar, grew into a 500-herd enterprise. The Hawkins Dairy, founded by Mrs. Lena W. Hawkins in 1901, has been a fixture in the community.
