Feel-good stories are what I look forward to writing about the most, especially when they involve anyone working within the school district because being an educator is a tough job these days!

This feel-good story takes us to Anthony, Texas where, after a whopping 48 years of being an absolute legend at Anthony ISD, Nurse Marlene White is finally retiring at the end of December!

Marlene's journey started in 1975 when she heard about a job opening at AISD through the nurse grapevine in Canutillo. The district was on the brink of disaster with non-compliant shot records, and Marlene swooped in like a healthcare superhero. She got hired on the spot and, within days, had a busload of students heading to the clinic in Canutillo for their immunization fix.

Fast forward to 2023, and Marlene can proudly say that 100 percent of Anthony ISD students are immunization rockstars. Her leadership skills prevented the school from shutting down, and she's basically the reason why Anthony is thriving and healthy today.

But it's not just about the job for Marlene; it's about family and community. With a husband, three kids, eight grandkids, and three great-grandkids (plus one on the way!), Marlene's legacy is one of compassion and care.

Even though her official last day is December 20, Marlene isn't leaving her nursing duties quite yet! She's considering volunteer gigs to help the new nurse and is ready to jet off for some quality family time.

Stories like this prove that not all superheroes wear capes. Some of them wear scrubs!
