Walmart Shirt Stirs Up Uproar Among Parents In Uvalde

"Where the heck is Uvalde, Texas?" is probably a question you would have asked about 10 years ago. However, given the recent tragic events, I'm almost certain that's no longer a question everyone asks.

I'm, of course, talking about the terrible tragedy when 19 children and two adults were  murdered on May 24, 2022 during the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School.

It may seem harmless, but the question was posted on a t-shirt that was sold at Walmart, however, the shirt has been pulled after parents of the victims found it upsetting.

Brett Cross- the father of Uziyah "Uzi" Garcia, one of the Uvalde school shooting victims- called out Walmart in a social media post- and gave a very honest answer to the question "where the heck is Uvalde, Texas?".

"Unbelievable" is the main response Cross got on his post.

Thousands of likes later, Walmart decided to remove the shirt and a spokesperson said, in a statement to MySA:

Our stores have always been central to the communities they serve, and our store managers have the ability to purchase merchandise that is locally relevant. Though well intended, we apologize for any distress this item has caused. The store immediately removed the item once we learned that it was perceived negatively by some customers.

I completely agree that it was probably not intended in the way that it was perceived; all Walmarts do have a section where merchandise references the town you're in. However, I have to agree with the parents- no one wants to see things like that after a terrible tragedy. Good on Walmart for actually taking acting and removing the shirt.
