In February of 2025, something exploded in the Sun Metro facility in far east El Paso. Security cameras inside the building captured the horrific accident that caused the blast.

Surprisingly, only 7 people were injured. 3 declined immediate care. while 4 were hospitalized. 2 of those were in critical condition and 1 was in serious condition.

Security cameras caught the incident which showed a Sun Metro bus, powered by and loaded with natural gas, fall from a life and explode.

The accident happened around 1 in the afternoon February 25, 2025 in far east El Paso at a Sun Metro repair facility.

The explosion led to a two-alarm fire, prompting a response from over 100 firefighters and approximately 48 fire units. The blaze caused severe structural damage, including the collapse of the building's roof and walls. Despite the extensive damage, no firefighters were injured during the operation.   - ctif.org

That video and others were studied by experts to figure out exactly what happened.

What Caused The Bus To Explode?

As you can see, the bus somehow became unbalanced and fell from the lift. As it toppled over, something punctured the tank holding the natural gas Sun Metro busses run on and that sparked the explosion.

About 100 El Paso Firefighters battled the ensuing blaze for hours before finally getting it under control around 5pm. See pics here. More videos and a professional breakdown of what happened can be seen in this video.

Sadly, 2 of the 7 people injured in the explosion, identified as Ruben Ibarra and  German Garcia by the El Paso Times, did not survive.
