The Battle of I-10 has been waged every year for well over 100 years. The first happening before there even was an I-10, back in 1914.

The yearly grudge match between the NMSU Aggies and the UTEP Miners wasn't always known as the Battle of I-10 ... there was no I-10 until the late 1960's ... but it's always been there. Believe it or not, the battle of I-10 will be fought in 2025 for the 111th time.

Even more unbelievable, unthinkable even, is that it will be the last.

The Battle Of I-10 has pitted the Miners against the Aggies and, (more importantly, the fans of each team), against each other for the longest time. For that weekend, friends and even family members become semi-enemies as bragging rights are either won or lost.

Some keep the friendly rivalry just that, friendly. Others take it way too seriously and some pretty epic brawls have broken out at the game both in and around the stadium. It can get crazy.

Why Is The Battle Of I-10 Going Away?

The Miners host the Aggies this year in Sun Bowl stadium on Saturday, November 22nd and then, es todo.

Because of UTEP's departure to the Mountain West Conference (MWC) next year, the football matchup will not be played in 2026.

The problem is UTEP and NMSU's non-conference football schedules for 2026 are already in place.

The schedules were set before UTEP announced they were leaving Conference USA for the MWC, so there's no room to add the rivalry game as a non conference game next season. - KVIA

UTEP won the last one and they have home field advantage for this one so many think they'll win easy. This year has added incentive though ... the chance to say not, "we won" but; "we won the LAST one". That should add a little extra fuel to the fire ...
