Father's Day Is Right Around The Corner And An NBA Star That's Representing Dallas In The Finals Just Gave His Dad An Awesome Gift.

The Mavericks are playing in the NBA Finals and while the whole state of Texas is rooting for them to bring a title back to the Lone Star State, one of the teams superstars is giving back to the man that raised him as Father's Day approaches.

Irving Is Signing His Dad To A Shoe Deal.

After being dropped by Nike in 2022 after a highly controversial online post shared by Irving, Kyrie signed with Chinese brand ANTA in 2023.

The eight-time All-Star is reportedly signing his first client to his new ANTA shoe line: his dad, Drederick Irving, in a historic move that marks the first time a player has signed his Dad to his own signature shoe deal.

Drederick was also a college basketball star in the 1980s, playing four years for Boston University.

Irving's Dad was indeed a hooper. With 1,931 career points (15.8 points per game), the 6-foot-4 guard finished his career as the Terriers’ all-time leading scorer at the time. As an upperclassman, Drederick posted 97 career three-pointers on 42.3 percent shooting. He also holds the record in career field goals made (716, fourth), among others.

BU retired his Terrier jersey right after his graduation. Drederick had a free agent tryout with the Celtics but didn’t land on an NBA roster he went on to play for several years in Australia where Kyrie was born and is a naturalized citizen.

Kyrie has credited his dad for being by his side throughout his career.

It's awesome to see Irving take great care of the man that raised him. While we know a lot of us can't do for our Dads what Kyrie is doing, we hope you take some time soon and show your Dad some love this Father's Day.
