Devon Walker, a Tulane football player who was injured during a game against Tulsa Saturday, has undergone a 3-hour surgery on his spinal injury, according to the school.

Dr. Greg Stewart, Tulane University's team physician, said neurosurgeons stabilized his spine.

"These kind of injuries take 24, 48, sometimes 72 hours to fully declare themselves," Stewart said before Walker entered surgery. "We don't know what the long-term implications and outcomes are going to be.”

"He is now in recovery.  It will be several days before we can assess his condition post-surgery,” said Dr. Stewart.

Stewart also said it is too early to determine if Walker will have any paralysis.

Meanwhile, Twitter has exploded with support for Devon with the hashtag #PrayersForDevon
