Former Yakima Bears Manager Mike Bell, Son of Buddy, Dies at 46
Sad news for fans of professional minor league baseball in the Yakima Valley today with the news of the passing of former Yakima Bears Field Manager Mike Bell's passing at the age of 46 due to complications from cancer of the kidneys.
Bell was the grandson of former big leaguer Gus Bell, son of former Gold Glove third baseman Buddy Bell and brother of former Seattle Mariner and current Cincinnati Reds Manager David Bell.
Bell had surgery back in late January to remove a cancerous growth but unfortunately died on Friday according to a report on ESPN.com.
After spending over a decade in the D-backs organization, Mike became a coach in the MLB for the Minnesota Twins.
Being the Public Address announcer for 17 seasons during the Bears tenure at Yakima County Stadium before moving to Hillsboro after the 2012 season, I was fortunate enough to get to know some of the players, scouts and coaches.

You finally get to go "home" and be "safe".
The Twitterverse exploded with condolences to the Bell family via the Arizona Diamondbacks official page:
Unfortunately, there are not many photos of Mike via our subscription to Getty Images but the one with him and his brother, David, exchanging lineup cards before a Reds vs. Minnesota Twins game seemed poignant.
