Good news for El Pasoans who are tired of virtual book reading and miss being shushed by the Library Lady. Five El Paso Public Library facilities are now open for in-person browsing

Restrictions on the use of certain city facilities and services that were previously imposed to slow the spread of the coronavirus are being relaxed as the city continues to transition from COVID crisis to COVID coexistence.

The move forward means you are now allowed to physically go inside the Dorris Van Doren, Memorial Park, Richard Burges, Irving Schwartz, and Judge Marquez libraries and browse through their collection of materials available to borrow, including books, magazines, DVDs, and CDs.

You won’t, however, be able to sit and read or lounge around leisurely inside the library as those actions are not yet allowed. Use of the computers, copiers, printers, and other services are also not available at this time, according to the library website. Those services will return at an unspecified later date.

Visitors are encouraged to use self-checkout machines, and are required to mask up and maintain 6 ft. of social distancing while inside the library. Temperature checks will be conducted upon entry.

All five facilities will maintain curbside service for those who feel more comfortable borrowing materials in that manner.
