Donn Roach pitched seven innings and allowed only one earned run Tuesday in the El Paso Chihuahuas 4-2 win over the Reno Aces at Southwest University Park. Reno loaded the bases in the ninth inning but El Paso reliever Jerry Sullivan left the tying run at second to seal the win. The Chihuahuas victory stopped Reno from its first sweep of 2014.
The Chihuahuas scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run double by Jake Goebbert and an RBI single by Taylor Lindsey. Rico Noel led off the sixth inning with a triple and later scored on Rymer Liriano’s RBI fielder’s choice. Noel’s insurance run proved valuable when Reno scored in the top of the seventh on Jake Lamb’s RBI double.
Bobby LaFromboise pitched a scoreless eighth inning for El Paso. LaFromboise has appeared in 53 games, which is more than any other Pacific Coast League pitcher. El Paso does not play on Wednesday.
