After four years, it appears that El Paso will finally begin the process of constructing a new downtown $180 million multi-purpose arena. City Council today unanimously voted to award the contract valued at $4.7 million to International Facilities Group, LLC (IFG) and they will serve as the owner's representative for the new facility.

What this means is that IFG will oversee land acquisition in downtown over the next nine months and then the construction of the multipurpose arena, which is expected to take another 30 months. If everything stays according to plan, the new facility should be completed by early 2020.

IFG is the same group who oversaw the construction of Southwest University Park. They will help determine the downtown site where the arena will be built and then help coordinate bids for the operator and architect of the facility.
