One El Paso Favorite Will Be Featured in the ‘Blue Beetle’ Movie
As much as many of us El Pasoans are bummed out that the new DC Comics movie Blue Beetle won't be set in El Paso, today I come to you with new hope.
The Blue Beetle movie is set in the fictional Palmera City, despite the superhero originating in El Paso. The director, Angel Manuel Soto, had a pretty good answer as to why they changed locations which you can read by clicking here.
But then that brings up the question, why was the director spotted here in El Paso nearly a year ago if they didn't shoot in El Paso? Nico wrote all about that, which you can read here.
Today, we may have an answer. El Paso favorite, Old Sheepdog Brewery, just revealed that they have officially joined the DC Comics Universe! Check out the pic below.
Did you miss it?
Old Sheepdog Brewery themselves have confirmed their involvement with Blue Beetle by sharing this:
I reached out to Old Sheepdog Brewery about their collaboration:
We met up with the director last year in April. He was in El Paso doing research for the film. We connected and we showed him our Barrio Love series, the beers we make honoring El Paso Barrios. We had several videos and he connected right away. He asked us about El Paso, our culture, and also met with other local creatives to get a sense for the city. He asked us to partake in the film and ordered several specific styles of beer to be used on set. We didn’t travel out there, they took the beer to their different recording locations.
So, it looks as though El Paso was still a big inspiration when it came to filming. I have to say, it's pretty awesome that the director still wanted to get a sense of the Sun City- and I'm real excited to see how well that is projected in the movie.
Congratulations to Old Sheepdog Brewery on their jump to the big screen, and I cannot wait to see what other El Paso Easter eggs are revealed in the film! Blue Beetle hits theaters on August 18. Old Sheepdog Brewery is located at 3900 Rosa Ave.
