Diego Luna Will Play Tonight, but Locos Star Added to USMNT U-20
As El Paso Locomotive FC prepares for its Western Conference Quarterfinals match tonight against the Oakland Roots SC, it could be the last time this season that one of their best players takes the pitch at Southwest University Park. Midfielder Diego Luna was named to the roster of the U.S. Men's U-20 National Team and he will report to the club on Sunday, November 7th.
"We are very proud of Diego’s development this season, and this call-up is fully deserving," said Locomotive Head Coach and Technical Director Mark Lowry in the official team release. "He has a drive and a desire to match his ability and we are happy that he is getting the recognition he deserves. It’s a proud moment for Diego and it’s a proud moment for El Paso Locomotive. We have full confidence he is going to go and show a lot of people what he is capable of, and we can’t wait to see it."
The 18-year old has compiled nine goals and five assists in 21 starts this season, but the rookie has also injected new life into the veteran club. He had previously been called to the U-14 and U-17 USMNT camps, but he has yet to make an appearance on the gameday roster for the national team. That could change next week in Guanajuato, Mexico when the U-20 USMNT plays Brazil, Columbia, and Mexico over a six-day period.
