More funding enables TxDOT to proceed with several new safety projects.

The coronavirus will not stop the orange barrel plague we've been dealing with for the last few years. Thanks to new funding, TxDOT will be undertaking new safety projects as part of what is known as the "Road To Zero" initiative.

According to the El Paso Herald Post, TxDOT El Paso District Engineer Tomas Trevino said:

These safety improvements will help save lives on our roadways.” “We always construct our roadways with safety in mind, but continuously analyze data and review operation of the roadway to identify any potential improvements that can be made.” EPHP

The new safety projects include sidewalks, better lighting, concrete barriers in the medians and the replacement of the metal guard rails along I-10 between Executive Center and University with concrete barriers. A "wrong-way driver" alert system is also planned to help prevent head-on accidents.

There are other projects in the plan too with work scheduled to begin this Fall. Read more here.
