The standard admission price is $15…but, do you have to pay an additional fee at the gate to get into Ascarate Park? The answer is yes AND no.

The Department of Parks and Recreation say there will be NO front gate fees Monday thru Thursday while the Big El Paso Fair is going on.

Fridays and the weekend are a different story.

On Fridays it will cost $5 to enter Ascarate Park after 5 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays the $5 entrance fee will be in effect after 11 a.m.

Hours for the Fair are 5 to 11 p.m. during the week (Monday thru Friday) and 1 pm to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays. It sounds like you can avoid the front gate fee if you show up at 4:59 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For instance, it’s basically half price if you buy your tickets online instead of at the fair.

How is the Big El Paso Fair like and unlike big, time-honored events such as the State Fair of Texas?

From everything I’ve been reading it sounds like there will be rides, midway games, live entertainment and lots of food and drink…just like the Texas State Fair.

There WON’T be livestock shows, FFA and 4H competitions or anything having to do with a giant exposition center.

Also, there won’t be an OU-Texas football game in front of 100,000 fans because Ascarate, as of right now, doesn’t have a Cotton Bowl.
