I guess it should not come as too much of a surprise that Pat Knight was fired as head coach of Texas Tech this morning. A record of 13-18 and 5-11 in the Big 12 will not cut it in Lubbock or at most other big conferences. Knight will coach the Red Raiders this weekend at the Big 12 Tournament. That will probably mean one more game for him. I will never forget when his father, Hall of Fame coach Bobby Knight told Don Haskins that he had a new appreciation for him because of how hard it was to recruit quality basketball talent to West Texas. I think Pat found that out the hard way.

One name to keep an eye on is former UTEP coach Billy Gillispie. Although Billy Clyde has had trouble finding work after imploding at Kentucky, Texas Tech AD Gerald Myers is aware of the miracle Gillispie achieved at Texas A&M.
