3 Times NFL Draft ‘Experts’ Were WAY Wrong

We are almost a week removed from the 2021 NFL Draft, which means the draft "experts" are grading the teams picks. It's fun to check out what guys like Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have to say about your team's picks. Just don't take it all too seriously. Here are a few times the draft "experts" have failed miserably in their own grade.

Let's start with the 1983 draft. This draft saw bunch of quarterbacks get drafted, including John Elway, Jim Kelly, Tony Eason, and Dan Marino. The latter is the one we're going to focus on because he's arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks ever, even without ever winning a Super Bowl. Next up on the list is Solomon Thomas. The San Francisco 49ers tend to have pretty good drafts. The pick of Solomon Thomas did not go well. He was selected third overall in the 2017 draft. In his four years in the league he has accumulated just 6 sacks and is already on to his next team after his rookie contract ran out.

Compared to this last example, those two seem really tame. It all starts 10 years ago in the 2011 draft with the Seattle Seahawks. Remember the Legion of Boom and how dominant those Seahawks defense was? Oh, and is Russell Wilson not one of the best quarterbacks in the league? Does this mean all draft "experts" are morons? No. Most put in a TON of time watching film on all these players so they can have an idea of what to expect from these college prospects. This is just to show you that they are wrong every now and then. And of course, we all know the draft process isn't an exact science.
